Moving Miami → New Jersey

New Jersey is really two destinations wearing one name: the Hudson waterfront, which moves like New York City, and everything west of it, which moves like a driveway. The price difference between those two arrivals is real, so we plan them differently.

COICertificate of insurance. Jersey City, Hoboken, and Weehawken towers want one before the freight elevator is reserved, same as Manhattan.

± 1,270 mi ÷ 280 TO 500 MI A DAY = 3 TO 5 DAYS

If you’re landing on the Gold Coast (Jersey City, Hoboken, Weehawken, Edgewater), plan it like a New York move, because the buildings do. High-rises there run on reserved freight elevators and certificates of insurance, and management offices want the paperwork days before the truck arrives. The one real advantage over the far side of the Hudson: curb space is solvable. Hoboken and Jersey City issue temporary no-parking permits that hold parking for a moving truck, which New York City famously doesn’t, and on a 14-foot-wide Hoboken street that permit is worth more than any packing tip we can give you.

West of the Palisades the move changes character completely. Montclair, Ridgewood, Summit, Princeton, Cherry Hill: driveways, garages, no elevator politics. The stair, shuttle, and permit charges in the box simply don’t apply to most of suburban New Jersey, which is why the same 1,270 miles can land two very different invoices. Tell us which New Jersey you’re moving to and the survey prices the right one.

Stairs · $50 to $150 / flightShuttle · $100 to $300Waterfront · COI + elevator
May to Sept · +20% to 30% · national peak

Timing: May through September is national peak season, and prices industry-wide run 20% to 30% higher. This leg also absorbs the New-York-metro summer lease churn, and plenty of “New York” moves actually end in Jersey City or Montclair, so a shoulder-month pickup is the cheapest version of this move if your dates flex.

One scope note we owe you: if the whole move is a studio’s worth of boxes headed to a Rutgers dorm, a full interstate carrier is usually the wrong and most expensive tool. Ship the boxes instead.

Moving New Jersey → Miami

New Jersey is one of the biggest origin states in Florida's winter migration. Every October the Parkway-to-I-95 pipeline starts flowing south, and it doesn't slow until spring.

4 to 8 wksRealistic booking lead time for an October-to-April move date. Winter is this lane's peak, the reverse of the national calendar.

OCTOBER TO APRIL IS THIS LANE'S PEAK · THE NATIONAL CURVE RUNS MAY TO SEPTEMBER

October through April is the season on this leg, peaking in January and February. Bergen, Monmouth, and Ocean County retirees have been wintering in South Florida for generations, and a growing share now makes the move permanent rather than seasonal. Four to eight weeks of booking lead time is realistic in that window. That’s what the migration data says about this corridor’s winter, not a booking-pressure line. We publish it because finding out two weeks before a January closing is the avoidable version of that story.

Lead time · 4 to 8 wksSeason · Oct to AprPeak · Jan to Feb

The pickup end has its own texture. A Hoboken or Jersey City walk-up loads slowly, with stairs, permits and tight curbs, everything the northbound leg describes in reverse, while a Morris County colonial loads off a driveway in half the time. Either way, winter weather at the origin is a real variable on this leg: a nor’easter that closes the Turnpike moves pickups, and we’d rather tell you that in September than surprise you in January. Your delivery window is set before we load in New Jersey.

HUDSON COUNTY PACK-OUT · LINE ATLAS, PLATE 02

And if Florida is decided but the town isn’t, say so on the survey call. A Boca or Tampa destination changes the linehaul, and changing before the paperwork beats changing after.

Basis, in the open: interstate moves price on weight and distance. Published rates run roughly $0.50 to $1.30 per pound depending on the linehaul, and a ~1,270-mile lane sits in the middle of that scale, which is why these bands match the New York lane’s almost exactly. Peak months, May through September, run 20% to 30% above these bands industry-wide; winter is this corridor’s own southbound peak. This is a planning range, not an estimate. What the estimate is actually made of

Miami ⇄ New Jersey

Questions people ask about this corridor.

How much does it cost to move from Miami to New Jersey?

Plan on $3,400 to $5,600 for a 2-bedroom home. That's a market band built from published interstate pricing for a ~1,270-mile linehaul, not our tariff and not an estimate. Studios run closer to $1,700 to $2,800; a 4-bedroom household runs $7,150 to $11,750, more in peak months. The number that counts is the one put in writing after a video survey; the calculator on our homepage scopes a range to your size and month in about 60 seconds.

How long does delivery take between Miami and New Jersey?

Three to five days on the road is typical for this distance. Add slack when a shipment shares the truck. Consolidation is what keeps interstate prices sane, and it's why you get a delivery window before we load instead of a single promised date.

Is moving to New Jersey cheaper than moving into New York City?

The linehaul prices almost identically. Newark is one exit short of the Hudson crossings, so the mileage math barely moves. Where New Jersey saves you money is the destination end: a Montclair or Cherry Hill driveway needs no certificate of insurance, no freight-elevator reservation, and usually no shuttle truck. A Jersey City or Hoboken high-rise plays by New-York-style building rules, and the same accessorials apply. Same lane, two very different arrival days. Tell us which one yours is.

Do I need a parking permit for the truck in Hoboken or Jersey City?

Usually, yes, and unlike New York City you can actually get one. Hoboken and Jersey City both issue temporary no-parking permits that reserve curb space for a moving truck, posted a few days ahead through the city. On those dense blocks the permit is the difference between a 20-foot carry and a 200-foot one, so start the paperwork as soon as your date is set. Suburban NJ needs none of this.

When should I book a New Jersey to Florida move in snowbird season?

Four to eight weeks ahead for an October-to-April move date. New Jersey is one of the biggest origin states in Florida's winter migration, so southbound capacity on this corridor tightens exactly when the Northeast gets cold. That's the corridor's published demand pattern. We publish it rather than use it as a pressure line. Northbound in the same months is the quiet, often cheaper direction.

Are you a broker or the actual carrier?

Carrier. USDOT 4022357, MC 1517490. Look us up on FMCSA's SAFER system before you believe anything on this page. A broker resells your move to whoever bids for it; booking direct with the carrier removes that hand-off, which matters on a lane with this much broker traffic.

Basis: national peak moving season runs May through September, when most U.S. moves happen and published market pricing runs higher at the top of the band. Snowbird-season demand out of Florida is real, but there’s no evidenced price differential for it, so we don’t show one.
